Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Saturday and reportedly discussed his proposal to reshuffle the state cabinet.
Accompanied by Power Minister KJ George, Mr Siddaramaiah held a 30-minute discussion with Mr Gandhi at former AICC chief Sonia Gandhi’s residence, according to Congress sources.
Mr Gandhi reportedly told the chief minister to discuss the cabinet reshuffle proposal with AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge.
Mr Siddaramaiah is expected to meet Mr Kharg in Delhi on Monday. However, when asked by reporters, the chief minister said that it was all “speculation in the media”.
Talks about Bihar
Party sources said Mr Gandhi met Mr Siddaramaiah along with Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and discussed the party’s dismal performance in Bihar.
Mr Gandhi reportedly told the two chief ministers to ensure better administration in their respective states to retain power after the end of the current term. He also said to intensify the campaign against “vote theft” against the Election Commission.
Dy. CM also in Delhi
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC chief DK Shivakumar, who is seeking the chief ministerial post, also landed in the state capital on Saturday and is expected to meet Mr Gandhi and other senior party leaders later.
When asked about the cabinet reshuffle, Mr. Shivakumar said, “I will not talk to the media about this issue. I will talk to the high command when asked.”
While there has been intense speculation in Karnataka over the past few weeks about a possible leadership change as the Congress government reaches its halfway term, the abysmal electoral performance of the party and its allies in the Bihar Assembly elections casts doubt on such possibilities.
