Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday (February 25, 2026) inaugurated the five-star Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) resort at Muzhappilangad. Speaking on the occasion, he stated that the Muzhappilangad-Dharmadam comprehensive beach development project will significantly boost not only regional tourism but also the tourism sector as a whole.
The Chief Minister said the ₹238 crore integrated project aims to strengthen tourism infrastructure at Muzhappilangad, Dharmadam and Dharmadam Island beaches to attract more domestic and international visitors. The project has been divided into four distinctive areas – North and South sides of Muzhappilangad Beach, Dharmadam Beach and Dharamadam Island.
The construction of the north side area at Muzhappilangad was completed at a cost of ₹ 62 crore. The remaining components will be implemented in a time-bound manner. On the north side, there is a sidewalk, children’s corner, refreshment centers and parking for vehicles. There will be seating, kiosks and parking spaces on the south side.
At Dharmadam Beach, plans include a floating deck, a Ferris wheel, a musical fountain and running and cycling pegs. A nature center with an underwater sculpture garden and an elevated nature walk has been designed on Dharmadam Island, which is known for attracting migratory birds. A detailed project report is being prepared after exploring the options for access to the island. Once completed, the beaches are expected to become major tourist centers.
Highlighting Muzhappilangad’s distinction of being the longest beach in Asia spanning nearly 4 km, the Chief Minister said its unique feature of allowing vehicles along the coast has earned it a special place on the world tourism map. He stressed the need to fully utilize its potential by providing basic amenities for visitors.
The newly opened resort, built using ecological construction methods and equipped with modern facilities, is to strengthen the state’s premium tourism segment, he added.
