Amid ongoing talks of leadership change in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar will participate in a ‘vote chori’ (voter theft) protest in New Delhi on Sunday.
According to official plans, Mr. Shivakumar left for Delhi on Saturday and Mr. Siddarmaiah left for Delhi on Sunday morning. The two leaders are expected to attend a protest in the state capital against alleged vote-stealing during the 2024 assembly elections.
The Congress launched a protest against the “vote-stealing” campaign against the Election Commission of India at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on August 8.
Leader of Sunday’s rally in Delhi will be led by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, who led a protest rally in Bengaluru. Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy is expected to take a group of legislators loyal to Mr. Shivakumar to Delhi.
Nearly 3,000 party workers and 30 legislators from Karnataka are expected to participate in the protest.
Mr. Shivakumar, who is also the KPCC chief, said that Mr. Gandhi had launched a fight against vote-stealing in Karnataka. “We have detected the theft of voter data in the 2023 legislative assembly elections and filed complaints with the Election Commission,” he said.
Talking about the vote-stealing case in Aland constituency ahead of the 2023 assembly elections, which has now been indicted by the SIT, he said the MLAs would raise it in the assembly session on Monday. “This is not just the voice of Karnataka but the entire country.
