Leopard caused panic in the Malabar Special Police (MSP) camp in Nilambur in the early morning hours on Thursday. The animal almost attacked Sentinel around 2.30 pm and escaped into the forest after the policeman fired a warning shot into the air.
The MSP officials said the guard had closely escaped the Leopard attack. According to the guardian, he fired at Leopard as he was going to strike, but missed. The leopard then fled into the forest.
Remnants of porcupine, probably hunted and consumed by leopard, were found near the MS camp.
The forest authorities confirmed the presence of Leopard in this area. They decided to install cameras and cages to capture the leopard.
People from Nilambur are on the edge of the appearance of Leopard in the city. Municipal Vice -President Nilambur ARUMU Jayakrishnan criticized forest staff and said they were not doing enough to prevent wild animals to embark on inhabited areas.
