
New Delhi: Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday directed higher officials of the Central Council of indirect taxes and customs (CBIC) to quickly close the investigation, accelerate tax returns and facilitate registration of goods and services (GST).
At the meeting in the capital, Sitharaman also asked officials to immediately resolve complaints of enterprises, focusing on dealing with tax evasion and incorrect tax loans.
The Minister reviewed the performance of the central GST and the customs authorities and asked the main Commissioner, the Chief Commissioner and CEO of CBIC to strengthen the performance, occupy vacancies and increase administrative efficiency.

Indian tax efficiency
During the Friday meeting, CBIC officials informed Sitharaman that the average time to resolve the complaints was shortened to nine days of the 21 -day time -time time and that 95-97% of the appeal is destroyed within a month.
This record has ranked CBIC among five out of 90 central ministries in the centralized order of public complaints and monitoring systems since February 2024.
Officials also told the minister to the average average for monthly administration of the GST return, which was over 94% in FY25 and that 85% of the tax refund is processed within the statutory 60 -day limit. GST audit coverage increased from 62.21% in FY23 to 88.74% in FY25.
Sitharaman ordered officials to improve performance parameters such as GST registration, processing of compensation and handling of taxpayers’ complaints.
“Simplifying GST registration, clarifying documentation for the main place of business and ordering auxiliary courses are much needed reforms that will facilitate taxpayers on Earth,” said Mohan of Amrg and Associates.
AMIT Maleshwari, AKM Global’s tax partner, tax and consulting firms, said GST audit coverage has improved significantly, with zero repeated audits in three years – a move that ensures justice without burdening taxpayers.
Sitharaman also urged the customs authorities to reduce the excess shipments in marine ports, airports and inland containers for import and export, and stressed that the cost of cost is essential to strengthen Indian global business competitiveness and easy business.
The Minister also ordered the disciplinary proceedings against officials at different levels to end quickly.
