A student of class VII drowned on Sunday in a pond in the village of Amarapuram near Walajah while swimming.
Police identified the deceased as S. Kannan, 13. Kannan, who lost his parents in his childhood, was brought up by his relatives by V. Kuppan, 45, and his wife K. Kavitha, 41.
When the couple was busy with farm work, Kannan left home to meet his friend in the village without informing them. After some time Kavitha returned home, but Kannan did not find there.
After a long waiting she and her neighbors were looking for him in the village. They found Kannan’s dress near the pond. They immediately alerted the firefighters and the Avalur police, who threw themselves into the place and gained the body.
