CJP Protest: Buying alcohol this weekend? Shops in Delhi may close early at 8 p.m., says report

Liquor shops in Delhi have been ordered to close by 8 pm till the weekend ends in view of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led student protests at Jantar Mantar, sources told news agency PTI on Friday.

According to the report, the unannounced early closing on Thursday caused many a rude shock when they had to return without alcohol.

Alcohol stores in the city otherwise close at 10 p.m.

“Shops will now close by 8 pm till the weekend. The decision was taken based on police inputs indicating the prevailing situation due to the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar,” said a senior government official in Delhi.

18 metro stations closed

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that 18 metro stations will remain closed from 07:30 on Friday until further notice due to heightened security concerns during the ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar.

DMRC said that train services on the Airport Express Line will be available only between Dhaula Kuan and Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25.

Delhi traffic police problems counseling

The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory on Thursday asking citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to the notified area and use alternate routes whenever possible.

“App-based mobility, connectivity, food delivery, logistics and e-commerce platforms are advised to regulate operations in a limited area for the duration of the ban to promote public safety and maintain law and order,” the company said.

As of Friday, no such report has yet been issued.

CJP Jantar Mantar protest

The restrictions came as security measures remain in place in central Delhi in view of the ongoing Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest that has attracted large gatherings at Jantar Mantar and adjoining areas in the past few days.

Protests over the NEET fiasco have rocked central Delhi for the past few days. It has now spread to other states like Maharashtra, Bihar and Telangana.

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which has been leading the student protest at Jantar Mantar for the past month, has been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak incident, which led to many students committing suicide.

On 20 July, a parliamentary march called by the CJP turned violent, with many protesters and several police officers injured.
