CJP protest: AISA chief Neha Bora released from custody; Abhijeet Dipke to be produced in court by SEM | Today’s news
All India Students Association (AISA) president Neha Bora was released early on Saturday while Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke will be produced before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM), Delhi Police said.
Both were taken into remand ahead of the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest march at Delhi’s Connaught Place Central Park on Friday. Bora was detained at Mandi House while Dipke was detained at Jhandewalan when they were on their way to Connaught Place, police sources told PTI.
Bora was released after completing the formalities related to her detention under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act, while action was initiated against Dipke under Sections 126 (protection for maintaining peace in other cases) and 170 (preventive arrest) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), police said.
Dipke was subsequently arrested and will be produced before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) later in the day, police sources told PTI.
Lawyers ‘must not meet Bora’
AISA claimed that after he was detained, Bora was moved from one place to another across Delhi for five hours before being taken to the RK Puram police station.
It claimed the lawyers reached the RK Puram police station around midnight but were not allowed to meet Bora.
He further claimed that the police did not clarify when she would be released and refused to give her medication despite knowing that she had been unwell for the past few days.
After being released from custody, Bora said: “The police demanded my name, address and other details. They did not allow me to speak or consult a legal adviser (lawyer) for a long time. Our lawyers spent 5-6 hours trying to call me; only after we managed to call them were they finally allowed to meet me. These are things these people have been doing for a long time.”
According to the police, about 150 people were detained to maintain order and ensure smooth traffic.
Central Park in Connaught Place was cordoned off by security personnel, with Rapid Deployment Force personnel deployed inside and additional forces deployed in the area.
