CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke’s grandmother dies hours after his arrest in Delhi | Today’s news

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke’s paternal grandmother, Savitribai Dipke, died on Saturday at the age of 85, hours after he was detained by the Delhi Police on his arrival in the capital. ETV India reported.

Sources told ETV Bharat that Savitribai had been unwell for the past few days and died on Saturday morning at the Santuk family’s native village of Pimpri in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district.

The news of her death came hours after Dipke was detained by the Delhi Police on board a flight from Mumbai to Delhi where he was traveling with fellow CJP activists Saurav Das and Ashutosh to take part in the party’s proposed protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Deepke’s parents, Bhagwan Deepke and Anita, were in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar when news of Savitribai’s death broke. Family sources said they will leave for Hingoli immediately.

Police presence was increased around their residence during the planned protest in Delhi.

As Dipke remained in police custody, it was unclear whether he had been informed of his grandmother’s death. Sources said the police are likely to arrange for him to travel to Sambhajinagar once they receive this report.

Why was security increased at Dipke’s residence?

Earlier on Saturday, police had beefed up security outside Dipke’s residence in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in view of the planned protest, PTI reported quoting an official.

A senior police official said the deployment has been stepped up outside his residence in MIDC Waluj area.

“Earlier one guard was posted at Dipke’s residence. Now the command has deployed a team of 20 policemen keeping in view the situation in Delhi,” said an official from the local police station.

Why is CJP protesting in Delhi?

The CJP has called for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of tampering with the electoral roll during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and changes related to Form 6, which is used for voter registration.

Activists Dipke and CJPs Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were traveling from Mumbai to Delhi to take part in the proposed demonstration when they were detained by the police upon arrival.

Delhi Police refused permission for the planned protest, citing security considerations and procedural requirements. Ahead of the demonstration, security measures were stepped up throughout the capital.
