CITU urges voters to support Left party candidates in GVMC polls

The Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Tuesday urged voters to elect the candidates of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation elections to be held on November 1.

In a speech at a press conference in the city, CITU State President Ch. Narsingarao, RKSV state secretary Kumar and Municipal Workers’ Federation leader P. Venkata Reddy said the coalition government was pushing “anti-worker and anti-people” policies. They alleged that the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant had paid ₹58,000 crore in taxes, of which ₹7,000 crore went to the state, and demanded a halt to its privatisation. They argued that property tax ordinances, outsourcing and proposed data centers will hurt workers and worsen water shortages.

The leaders supported 14 CPI(M) candidates, six CPI candidates, an independent in Ward 119 and Aam Aadmi Party candidates.
