Leaders and members of the Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) staged a protest at Jagadamba Junction here on Monday in support of the Swarna Gramam Secretariat and Swarna Ward (SGSW) workers who are agitating for their pending demands.

CITU State President Ch. Narasinga Rao said the government should resolve the employees’ problems instead of resorting to what he described as coercive measures. He said the employees are seeking promotions, notional raises, payment of nine months’ arrears, a reduction in workload and an end to the alleged harassment.

Mr. Narasinga Rao also demanded the release of the workers arrested during Sunday’s protest in Vijayawada and withdrawal of cases against them. He alleged that permission to protest was denied and the workers were detained at Dharna Chowk.
