Christians from Belagavi and neighboring areas gathered at Belagavi Old Cemetery on Sunday to observe All Souls Day.
All over the world, this day is commemorated by the memory of deceased family members and loved ones. Christians believe in the sanctity and blessing of the souls of their families, so decorate their graves with flowers and say special prayers for them.
Prayer services were organized at Christian burial grounds throughout the city. Special prayers were held at graveyards near the golf course, Shahpur and other places.
In his sermon, Fr. Cyril Braggs reminded the people of their temporary stay on earth. “When we pray in the cemetery, the deceased remind us that tomorrow is our turn. Therefore, with our good deeds and prayers, we should always be ready to face death, which is inevitable for everyone,” said Fr. Braggs said.
People from all over the city gathered at the Old Cemetery and the British Cemetery near the Golden Field. After the prayer services, family members lit candles on the graves while priests blessed them.
parish priest Fr. Vijay Mendith was the main celebrant at the mass held at the Old Cemetery by the golf course. Together with him were Fr. Nelson Pinto, Fr. Michael Fernandes, Fr. Albert Dsouza, Fr. Rajendra Prasad and Fr. Dennis Rodrigues, said the release.
