Here, a case of cholera was confirmed in a migrant worker in Kakkanad.
The district health authority on Monday called it an “imported case”. He is believed to have developed symptoms including vomiting and diarrhea during the train journey.
According to health officials, he was on his way back to Kochi after attending Deepavali celebrations in his hometown.
He was admitted to Government Medical College Hospital, Ernakulam. Laboratory tests confirmed cholera and he was given adequate care. According to them, his condition is stable.
District health authorities suspected that he may have ingested contaminated water or food while traveling by train. They recommended preventive and control measures to him at his place of residence. There was nothing to panic as the person developed symptoms immediately after returning and sought treatment immediately, they said.
