Anna Wintour officially named Chloe Malle as a new head of editorial content for the American edition of Vogue, which meant a significant transition of leadership to the iconic title of fashion.
Chloe Malle replaces Anna Wintour but not completely
Malle, who led the digital editorial efforts in Vogue, will enter the role with immediate effect, followed by Wintour, who surrendered in June the daily editorial leadership of the American edition.
Despite the shift, Wintour remains as a global editorial director of Vogue and the main content director of Condé NAS and maintains her supervision of all international editions of the magazine.
Malle, seasoned Vogue Insider, is also known outside the publishing world as the daughter of a recognized actress Candice Bergen (Murphy Brown) and the late French director and screenwriter Louis Malle. After first, she joined Vogue in 2011 as a social editor after several years of contributing to the magazine and currently host of his official podcast “Run with Vogue”.
“I spent my career in Vogue, working in roles across each platform – from press to digital, sound to video, events and social media,” Malle said in a statement. “I love the title, I love the content we create, and I love the editors who create it. Vogue has already shaped who I am – now I am enthusiastic about Vogue forming.”
Wintour expressed deep confidence in the ability to direct the American edition forward. “I believe that warmth, joy, experience and zealous visions are what Vogue will prosper over the coming years,” she said.
“At the moment of change in both fashion and outside, Vogue must continue to be a standard bearer and border leader. Chloe has often proved that she can find a balance between the long, unique history of American Vogue and his future in the front lines,” Anna added.
“I’m so excited that I can continue with her work as her mentor, but also as her student,” Wintour added, “while she and our audience lead us where we have never been before.”
Malle’s promotion follows the recent promotion of another Wintour Protégé, Mark Guidacci, who was appointed by the global editorial director of Vanity Fair at the beginning of this year. Guiducci, Alumnus Vogue, now oversees the global editorial strategy of the Vanity Fair, in what seems to be a wider sequence plan for a trusted Wintoura inner circle.
With a deep editorial experience of Malle and the digital first focus, the next era of Vogue US is ready to straddle the heritage of high fashion journalism with the requirements of a constantly developing and multiple audience.
