Chirag Paswan ashamed to be part of govt, says rising cases of harassment in Bihar

Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan, an alliance partner of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Bihar, has hit out at the state government over rising crime against women.

Referring to the recent cases of molestation of minor girls in Jamui, Samastipur, Banka and other districts, Mr. Paswan said that these incidents brought shame to Bihar.

Mr. Paswan said it should be everyone’s collective responsibility and asked why such incidents were happening in Bihar. He argued that the government should set a precedent that they should shake hands with criminals before committing any crime on girls.

He raised questions about the functioning of the local police, asking what they were doing there and how they could allow it. Mr. Paswan suggested that strict action should be taken against the police officers who fail to fulfill their duties.

“There is no fear of the police, and if there was no fear, what is law and order? As an alliance partner, you can send me a notice; you can remove me from the government; it doesn’t matter to me, but I will ask this question,” said Mr. Paswan said on September 26, 2026 during a conclave in Patna organized by digital media (City Post Live).

He further said, “No one feels safe in this scenario. As a part of the government and an alliance partner, I cannot run away from this fact. I feel ashamed to think of the fact that I am part of a government under which such incidents are happening. This is a disturbing thing.”

Expressing his anger, Mr. Paswan said, “I am outraged by one incident after another; what image is my Bihar projecting at the national level? An atmosphere of fear and insecurity must have prevailed among our daughters. Tell me, is there a single girl today who does not think 100 times before stepping out of the house? Where is that sense of security? I will not accept.”

He added that the morale of criminals has increased and there is a need to establish the rule of law and fear of the law.

“I have more responsibility today because I am part of the government and our people serve as ministers in it. In such a situation, I will certainly not be silent – nor will I simply enjoy the benefits of power and turn a blind eye. I will ask questions and demand answers to all these questions,” he said. Paswan said.

Rohini Acharya, daughter of opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) national president Lalu Prasad, posted a message on her social media account X on September 27, 2026, asking Mr. Paswan to resign from the Union Cabinet if he was ashamed.

“What auspicious muhurat are you waiting for to resign, Chirag Paswan ji? Even if you carry the burden of ‘shame’, staying in the government is something you can learn from Chirag Paswan ji. When being part of the government fills you with ’embarrassment’ because of Bihar, which has become absolutely dangerous for the protection of sisters and daughters, then waiting for what is for the protection of sisters and daughters, to resign muhurat?” Ms. Acharya wrote.

She further said, “Expressing grief only through statements and shedding crocodile tears is the old pastime of Chirag Paswan ji – drama. When everything is already unpleasant, unbearable and immersed in shame, then you wait for someone to issue a NOC (No Objection Certificate) to sign a resignation letter, Chirag Paswan ji?”
