India fully restores tourist and business visas for Chinese nationals
The move follows India’s decision to fully restore the visa regime for Chinese tourists and business travelers. On 26 November, the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the visa process was now “fully operational”, marking the end of a five-year suspension imposed following border clashes in 2020.
“Tourist visas are given to Chinese nationals and business visas were given earlier. So you know, all these visas are now in place. The visa regime for tourism and business etc. is fully functional,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal was quoted as saying by ANI.
Tourist visas renewed
India officially resumed issuing tourist visas to Chinese nationals worldwide in November 2025, expanding to a limited reopening beginning in July 2025. Business visas were already being granted prior to this recent announcement, and the process is still in place.
The visa resumption is part of a series of people-centric confidence-building measures agreed by the two sides in 2025. These initiatives also included the resumption of direct commercial flights between India and China in October 2025 and the revival of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra pilgrimage, ANI reported.
The resumption of normal visa operations and the introduction of online applications are expected to boost tourism, expand business opportunities and improve people-to-people exchanges between the world’s two most populous countries.
