The highest Chinese official released the latest escalation of President Donald Trump’s tariff on Tuesday (April 15), warning that “extremely shameless” trade war would eventually damage “peasants in the United States”.
Xia Baolong, supervising Hong Kong and Macao Affairs for Beijing, condemned the decision of Trump’s administration 145% of the departure to the goods from the region and called this step “brutally disproportionate”.
“The US is not after our tariffs, but our survival,” Xia said. “The US repeatedly contained and suppressed Hong Kong … and it eventually wipes itself.”
“Let those peasants in the United States howled Chinese civilization 5,000 years ago.”
China will not be bullied: Xia
Fire remarks indicate one of the strongest public reactions, yet from Beijing, because the tension between the two countries was escalating again.
“The Chinese do not cause problems or are not afraid of trouble,” Xia said.
“Pressure, threats and blackmail are not the right way to deal with China.”
He argued that we would try to use economic pressure eventually, as in previous shutdowns including Hong Kong.
Beijing retaliatory with steep tariffs
Notes come just a few days after China has announced that it will increase its own tariffs to American goods to 125% for retaliation for the transfer of Trump.
The Tit-for-for-Tat measure increased concerns about other fully blown trade wars, both sides dug.
JD Vance Sparks Diplomatic Fury
The tension has already expanded after the US Vice President JD Vance raised outrage in Beijing with controversial comments on the role of China in American consumption.
“American borrows from Chinese peasants to buy things that these Chinese peasants produce,” Vance said.
This note caused immediate convictions from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
“Heard words that do not have knowledge and respect, such as the one that this vice president is pronounced, is surprising and a little pitiful,” said Lin Jian, spokesman for Lin.
Lin said that comments reflect the misunderstanding of modern China and show a lack of respect for the Chinese.
The latest War of words underlines the deteriorating state of relations between the US and China in the middle of the trade war.
