
The double Olympic medalist and former world champion of PV Sindu exhibited gravel and control to beat the sixth seed of Tomoka Miyazaki from Japan 21-15, 8-21, 21-17 and entered the round 16 at the China Open Super 1000.
Sindhu, currently in 15th place in the world, made a strong start and joined seven consecutive points to create a commanding 13-5 leadership in the opening game, which it comfortably closed.
In the second game, however, the momentum moved when 18-year-old Miyazaki attacked back and took nine points on the trot to turn the 8-3 deficit on 12-8 leadership. The Japanese young man who defeated Sindu last year at their only previous meeting at the Swiss Open, with ease of the match.
In the referees, Sindhu regrouped and played with greater peace, holding a permanent lead to close the match in 62 minutes and avenge her earlier loss.
Victory means essential support for the Indian ace, which has so far withstood the difficult season. Last week she suffered the first round on the Super 750 Japan Open and lost 15-21, 14-21 for the Korean SIM Yu Jin-hee the fifth opening defeat of the year. Sindu also soon appeared from Indonesia Open, Singapore Open, Malaysia Masters, Asian Championships, Swiss Open, All England Open and Indonesia Masters.
In the male double, in the world No. 15 a couple satwiksairaj Randireddy and Chirag Shetty also commanding their campaign and defeating Japanese Kenya Mitsuhashi and Hiroki Okamura 21-13, 21-9 in just 31 minutes.
The Indian duo introduced excellent coordination and attack on Flair and kept its opponents on the back leg during the match. After the first game, they raised the pace further in the second to register the dominant victory.
Former pair of world No. 1 will now look at the tournament at a deeper run, and its goal is to break their Jinx semifinals this season after falling in the last four phase on Malaysia Open, India Open and Singapore Open.
But it was disappointing in women’s doubles, because the Indian couple Panda and Swetapar Panda collapsed in the opening round. The duo lost 12-21, 13-21 on Hong Kong’s NGA Ting Yeung Yeung and Pui Lam Yeung in 31 minutes.
