The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in collaboration with the district administration organized a district-level workshop on child rights issues in Ramanathapuram on Friday.
The topic of the meeting was the issue of corporal punishment and its long-term impact on the mental health and overall development of children, gaps and challenges in the effective implementation of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act of 2015.
The need to strengthen reporting and response mechanisms under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012 was also discussed. Discussions during the workshop underscored the importance of banning corporal punishment and mental harassment in schools, NCPCR said in a social media post.
