Child Rights Panel assesses welfare measures in Villupuram

The Tamil Nadu Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TNCPCR) held a district-level review meeting on child protection and welfare initiatives at Villupuram Collectorate on Thursday.

The meeting chaired by Chairman Pudukottai Vijaya was attended by member Casimir Raj and representatives of various line departments. The meeting looked at the state of welfare systems and protection mechanisms implemented across departments, including school education, social welfare, health, labour, police and integrated child protection services.

Officials from the District Child Protection Unit, Child Welfare Committee, Juvenile Justice Board and Children’s Helpline 1098 briefed the panel on measures taken to protect children’s rights and respond to cases of child labour, abuse and neglect.

Ms. Vijaya emphasized the importance of inter-departmental coordination to ensure children’s safety and early rehabilitation. She urged officials to strengthen information and education programs in schools and rural areas to prevent child abuse. All schools and childcare facilities must have clear child protection policies and child-friendly procedures and staff should be regularly trained, she said.
