Due to the timely intervention of the officials concerned, a child marriage was stopped at Thangallapalli mandal headquarters in Rajanna Sircilla district on Monday morning.
Acting on a tip-off received by the child helpline ‘1098’, officials of the Women Development and Child Welfare Department along with volunteers and local police rushed to the wedding hall and stopped the marriage of a 17-year-old and six-month-old minor girl to a local youth a few hours before the scheduled ‘muhurtham’.
Officials conducted counseling for the parents of both the minor girl and the teenager and obtained written commitments from them against child marriage.
