The Chikkamagaluru district administration has banned long chassis vehicles from entering the road that connects Kaimara and hill stations in the taluk between December 1 and 5 in view of the Datta Jayanthi program at Sri Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Swamy Durgah.
Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishat have decided to celebrate Datta Jayanthi between December 2 and 4. The district administration is expecting the participation of more than 25,000 people from different parts of the district and outside.
On the first day, the devotees would arrive in the city on December 2 at Datta Mala. The next day they went on a parade in the city. The celebration would culminate with a visit to the Bababudangiri peak shrine.
The road that connects Kaimara to the hill station is narrow and negotiating deep curves is a challenge for the driver. The road witnessed landslides during heavy rains earlier this year. Potholes have formed in the stretch near Kavikal Gundi where vehicles get stuck. To avoid inconvenience to visitors during the event, CN Deputy Commissioner Meena Nagaraj on Saturday issued an order banning the entry of vehicles with long chassis. The order applies to vehicles with a wheelbase longer than 432 cm (170 inches).
Such vehicles would be stopped at a checkpoint near Kaimara. However, the restriction would not apply to police vehicles, fire tenders and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) vehicles hired to transport security personnel on the occasion, the order said.
Shops
Further, Ms. Nagaraj also ordered the closure of all shops and commercial establishments on the main roads in Chikkamagaluru city on December 4, a day when a large number of devotees are expected to participate in the procession.
It ordered the closure of shops on Rathagigi Road, Indira Gandhi Road, the stretch connecting Mugtihalli to KSRTC bus stand, KSRTC bus stand to Ramanahalli, parts of KM Road, Basavanahalli Main Road, Aldur Road and the road connecting Bankal and Kottigera.
Ms. Nagaraj issued the order on the recommendation of Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police. With more than 25,000 people expected to participate in the Datta Jayanti program on the last day, there are chances of them raising objectionable slogans that could disrupt law and order.
Shops have been ordered to close to avoid untoward incidents, the order said.
