Chikkamagaluru Deputy Commissioner Bhanwar Singh Meena instructed officials to install CCTV cameras at popular tourist destinations of the district, including Mullayyanagiri and Seethalayyanagiri. The officer issued the instructions after inspecting basic equipment and safety measures during a visit to the hill stations on Saturday.
He told the officers on board to give instructions to the tourists at the entry points and ensure that the visitors return safely. He also reviewed the steps taken to ensure the safety of tourists in the hill stations.
The Deputy Commissioner ordered to make necessary arrangements for waste management in the tourist locations of the mountain region and install dustbins at the required places. He ordered that signboards be put up informing visitors that the Mullayyanagiri and Seetalayanagiri areas have been declared plastic-free zones, instructing tourists not to use plastic and to put waste in dustbins.
Mr. Meena was accompanied by Mr. Lohit, Deputy Director, Department of Tourism, and other officers.
The girl is missing
A 15-year-old girl who was part of a tourist group from Palakkad in Kerala went missing near Manikyadhara Falls in April this year and was later found dead.
