Chief Secy Should Ask District Collectors To Instruct Officials To Follow Union Govt Guidelines On Protocols: MP

Viduthalai general secretary Chiruthaigal Katchi and Villupuram MPD Ravikumar on Monday urged the Tamil Nadu chief secretary to ensure that the “instructions issued by the Union government on how members of parliament should be treated” are followed and that the district collectors instruct revenue officials and other departments to follow them.

In a statement, Mr. Ravikumar said the order issued on January 12, 2026 states that MPs representing the area must be invited to public events organized by a government office.

“In accordance with the Protocol, due consideration should be given to the fact that Members of Parliament are senior to officers of the level of Secretaries to the Government of India and therefore proper and comfortable seating arrangements should be provided for them in public functions and proper order of sitting on the dais should be followed,” he pointed out.

He added: “Invitations and media events organized for functions held within a constituency may include the names of MPs representing that constituency who have confirmed their attendance at the events. If any MP’s constituency extends across more than one constituency, the MP must always be invited to all functions held in the constituencies that form part of his constituency.”
