Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand directed the secretaries to henceforth prepare ward and district action plans for the smooth conduct of the Godavari Pushkarams scheduled from June 26 to July 7, 2027, based on the experience of the Maha Kumbh Melaheld in Allahabad.
Addressing a meeting of the committee of secretaries set up by the government for the successful organization of the grand event, Mr. Vijayanand said on Friday that the government had also formed a Group of Ministers and appointed Health Commissioner G. Veerapandian as a special officer.
He directed the Collectors to prepare and submit detailed DPRs on aspects like identification of bathing ghats, drinking water, sanitation, transport, medical camps, security, crowd control, traffic management and coordination of emergency services.
Mr. Vijayanand emphasized the need for robust arrangements in the districts of Alluri Sitharama Raju, Eluru, East Godavari, Kakinada, West Godavari and Konaseema (with due focus on Rajahmundry town) through which the Godavari River flows and the use of advanced technology to handle massive crowds.
Mr. Veerapandian mentioned that 4.86 million devotees took a holy dip in the Godavari during Pushkarams in 2015 and it could be between nine and 10 million in 2027.
Subsidy Commissioner Ramachandra Mohan, Director General RTGS Prakhar Jain, Chief Engineer Water Resources Department Seshu Babu and other officials were present.
Principal Secretaries S. Suresh Kumar and Shashibhushan Kumar, RTC MD Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, Additional DGP (L&O) N. Madhusudan Reddy, APTDC MD K. Amrapali and Director I&PR KS Viswanathan and Collectors of the above areas were in virtual attendance.
