Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Andhra Pradesh Judicial Academy building at Pichukalapalem in Amaravati.
The judicial academy building will cost ₹ 165 crore and will have a G+3 academic block, a G+8 storey hostel block and an indoor sports ground and guest facilities. It will accommodate a pool of 120 novice referees and have a total built-up area of 2.05 thousand square feet. The administrative and academic block will have 500 seats, 70 discussion seats, a 60-seat forensic laboratory and a 50-seat computer lab, among other modern facilities.
Justice Surya Kant also laid the foundation stone for the Supreme Court guest house on nearly 34 acres of land spread between Nelapadu and Kondamarajupal villages with a built-up area of 50,000 sq.ft.

Later, the CJI watched an audio-visual presentation on capital construction at Amaravati and inaugurated the residential enclave of Supreme Court judges near Nelapad High Court, built at a cost of ₹210 crore. The enclave has 36 bungalows and scope for construction of another 13 bungalows in the future.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Supreme Court Justices JK Maheswari, PS Narasimha, Prashant Kumar Mishra and SVN Bhatti, AP High Court Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Chief Secretary to the Government G. Sai Prasad were present.
Principal Secretaries J. Syamala Rao and S. Suresh Kumar, CRDA Commissioner K. Kannababu, Guntur District Collector Tamim Ansariya and Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal were present.
