Cherukolpuzha meets demands to withdraw cases against Ayyappa devotees

February 20, 2026

An ongoing Hindu religious meeting in Cherukolpuzha is demanding that the Kerala government withdraw cases registered against those who participated in the 2018 Sabarimala Namajapa protests to protect temple customs.

In a memorandum submitted to the government for urgent attention, the meeting described the meeting as highly condemnable that even ordinary devotees were enrolled in non-bailable sections. The long continuation of these cases, even years after they were registered, adversely affected the lives and employment prospects of the devotees.

While the state government had earlier claimed in its affidavits that it was bound to implement the Supreme Court’s verdict, the congregation said there was now a growing view from various quarters that a consensus should be developed on women’s entry into the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple, taking into account the sentiments and protests of devotees.

“Hostile Legal Actions”

She also urged the state to end what it called hostile legal actions against devotees in various courts and to respect the sentiments of those who sought to protect the sanctity and traditions of the Ayyappa temple.

The memorandum was presented by AR Vikraman Pillai, General Secretary, and PS Nair, President of the Mahamandalam Hindu Matha.
