Culture Chennai is something unimaginable, and that’s what Chennai ‘Chennai’ has been doing for almost 53 years, says V. Kamakoti, director of Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M).
What do you mean by the culture? For me it can be the music season, Margazhi in December, the largest music festival in the world. Sabha culture has evolved over the years, as well as the number of artists. They also offer great demonstrations of food and lectures.
Then it can be the Chennai kitchen, the varietal fare that is served. I can mention iconic places such as Dasaprakash and Woodlands that have transferred traditions. It can be the longest beach that is a unique experience in itself. It can be the way the city has cricket. The Chepauk stadium, which hosted great cricket matches, is a testimony to this pulsating sports atmosphere.
It can be our school system. We have some great schools that make us more holistic. Of course, Chennai also boasts some of the best medical facilities in the world. In the field we have some Doyens who treat their profession as something beyond money and business. Also large temples and temple tanks we have.
Ranganathan businesses, especially during the festival, are a great example of an inclusive place where people from all economic sections visit shopping. Overall, in all aspects that define life, Chennai somehow institutionalized him. In every aspect, you will eventually find an ecosystem that will help you enjoy the city better.
