
Chensai Grand Masters Chess Tournament, which was to start on Wednesday 6 August, was postponed a day and now starts on Thursday after fire broke out at the venue. The tournament is set to some large names, with Indian Arjun Erigaisi leading the way.
On Tuesday evening at the Hyatt Regency Hotel broke out and forced the tournament to be postponed. Indian GM and director of the Srinath Narayanan tournament said players were safe and moved to a nearby hotel after the incident.

The players were eventually brought back to the venue, but the tournament will only start after the new round of security checks.
“Almost midnight took place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Chennai. Due to an electric fire on the ninth floor, the whole hotel became smoke and everyone had to evacuate the hotel than it was difficult to breathe,” Chessbase India informed.

The organizers told PTI that the timing of the tournament would remain the same and the tournament will end on August 15th. However, the day of rest was taken from the plan.

Chennai Grand Masters bears the price of one crore and introduces Erigaisi, along with see Gujrath and Anish Giri from the Netherlands. Erigaisi is ready to start a campaign against the American Awonder Liang.
Erigaisi and Gujrathi will take place on August 14th in the 8th round 8. The tournament will record participation of 19 grandmothers and offer fundamental points of FIDE districts.
