According to the Premier League, an investigation found that between 2011 and 2018, undisclosed payments linked to the club were made to third parties to players, unregistered agents and other individuals.
“These payments were not reported to football’s governing bodies, including the Premier League, at the time,” the league said in a statement. He added that the payments constituted a breach of the requirement that clubs act in good faith towards the competition.
Chelsea accepted the punishment, which was approved by an independent commission.
In addition to the financial penalty, the club received an immediate nine-month ban on the registration of academy players. Chelsea were also handed a one-year transfer ban for first-team players who were suspended.
