Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a Government of India undertaking under the Ministry of Energy, will launch a major tender on November 6 to procure 10,900 electric buses for five cities.
This tender covers five metropolitan cities – Bengaluru, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Surat, which have been allotted 4,500, 2,800, 2,000, 1,000 and 600 PM e-buses respectively.
According to an official release, the pre-bid phase witnessed strong participation from leading domestic and international manufacturers and after issuing a clarification on pre-bid queries, CESL extended the deadline for submission of bids till November 6.
The e-Bus initiative was said to be a significant step in promoting clean mobility in India, which focuses on the electrification of public transport, bringing significant economic benefits.
Over the last few years, India’s strong policies – through the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India (FAME-I and II), the Electric Mobility Support Scheme and the PM e-Drive and PM e-Bus Sewa initiatives have created a strong framework for sustainable mobility.
Andhra Pradesh was considered to be one of the most active states with rich experience in implementing energy efficiency, renewables, e-mobility and energy transformation programmes, for which CESL initiated the preparation of an exclusive action plan for time-bound implementation of the e-mobility programme.
Accordingly, CESL is targeting the cities of Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Nellore and Tirupati to give a tangible shape to the e-mobility program in the near future.
