Walmart Global CEO and President Doug McMillon on Tuesday (June 24, 2025) repeated the goal of the company to get $ 10 billion a year from India and added that it was rare to see how much economy like India was growing as fast as it was. He also said that society learns a lot from its Indian acquisitions, flipkart and Phonepe.
McMillon, who spoke to the event in New Delhi to show Walmart’s companies in India, that while the only trip can provide a picture of what is happening in India, made repeated trips and saw the Indian story developing, expanding and “becoming much more interesting”.
“At the beginning we got products here,” he said. “There were limited categories, but we were excited to start. See what happened in our source business. A lot is grown and now we have this goal to get $ 10 billion a year, which is really a big number and we are trying to achieve the supplier.”
He added that Walmart has a long -term view of India.
“If you saw that since we were here and you can expect it to continue, we see growth in India,” said Mr. McMillon. “We see how business is happening here. And we have to do business around the world and it is rare that such a big economy is growing so fast and creates so many opportunities for so many people.”
McMillon, who spoke of the past acquisitions of Walmart in India, Flipkart and Phonepe, said the growth of both businesses was “inspiring”.
“We are really learning a lot from these businesses,” he said. “The ability to innovate, the ability to move at speed, the ability to serve more and more customers, develop retailers, build an electronic store that has only a really bright future and a chance to create a lot of opportunities for everyone.”
