With the local election elections on Prague, political battlelines attract not only on Earth, but also through the rivers and lakes of central Travancore.
Environmental problems plunged into the center of political discourse because the parties capture their campaign machines. For example, the Keral Congress (M) plunged into an action with a symposium of recurring floods in the Meenachil River.
The chairman of KC (m), chairman of KC (m) Jose K. Mani, called for a complete reworking of water management strategies and urged the state to accept long -term flood control plans. “Capacity for the storage of the river and currents must be maximized. Check-dams should be driven by seasonal protocol. Desolting and removal of watercourse waste are decisive and the excess of river sand must be auctioned,” he said.
The party plans to form a recommendation that appeared on the symposium and introduced them to the state government. Interestingly, KC (M) holds the Portfolio of Water Resources of the State with Rosy Augustine in the rudder.
On the other hand, the competing fraction led by PJ Joseph launches a protest campaign anchored on the Jezeře Vembanad, which serves as a rescue rope for kuttanad regions susceptible to the flood and Upper Kuttanad.
Charging this neglect and government inactivity brought the lake to the brink, the first phase of the protest started on Saturday 28.
“The mud, mud and garbage suffocated lake Vembanad, drastically reduced its storage capacity. Frequent floods and crop destruction have become the norm. The state and the center ignored the Swaminathan Commission recommendations.
It requires instant, targeted actions: Restore the lake, revive the dying watercourses such as Kariyar and Thotappall, protecting non -rushing fields, and the introduction of special projects of flood reliefs in Kottayam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta.
