The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) repeated its warning to Indian nationals against the connection to the Russian army and after the reports were received and deployed in combat zones, several citizens were adopted. Mea spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday that the center often emphasized the risks and dangers of such recruitment and urged Indian citizens to refrain from entering the Soviet army.
“We have seen reports that the Indian nationals who were recently admitted to the Russian army. The government has emphasized several times in the last year’s risks and dangers associated with this procedure and warned Indian citizens accordingly,” Jaiswal said in an official announcement.
“We also attracted a matter with the Russian authorities, both in Delhi and in Moscow, asking for this practice to be discontinued and to be released by nationals. We are also in contact with the families of affected Indian citizens,” he added.
“We reiterate all Indian nationals again to stay away from any offers to join the Russian army because it is a course full of danger,” he said.
Advice for announcements comes after a report published in Hind, which revealed that two Indian men, currently imprisoned in the area of Donetsk in Eastern Ukraine, claimed to be cheated to travel to Russia with the promise of building jobs to be sent instead.
He speaks on the phone from Selydov – a city seized by Russian forces in November 2024 – men said that at least 13 other Indians face similar conditions.
The report also shows that everyone has traveled to Russia over the last six months to students or visitors visas. The agent allegedly promised them that they were working in the building sector, but instead redirected them to the army.
The new Delhi consistently pushed all the Indians working as supporting staff – including chefs and helpers – with Russian military units. This has become a key problem for new Delhi after deaths of at least nine Indians in the middle of the Russian ongoing war with Ukraine. Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally raised the matter with Russian President Vladimir Putin during last year’s two independent meetings.
