The Center has agreed to set up a premier yoga and naturopathy research institute in Andhra Pradesh at an estimated cost of ₹750 crore, Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said on Monday. In a statement released to the media on November 10, the minister said the institute would function under the central government on the basis of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The institute, to be set up by the Central Council of Research in Yoga and Naturopathy under the Ministry of AYUSH, will offer an undergraduate course in naturopathy and yogic science. In the first year, the intake will have 100 UG seats and 20 PG seats. The project will also create a 450-bed naturopathic hospital equipped with modern facilities and a Research and Training Center. The central government has written to the state government to allot 40 acres of land for the institution, the minister said. Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the positive response to his request, Mr. Yadav said that while several National Medical Institutes under the AYUSH Ministry are already functioning in various states, the upcoming institute in Andhra Pradesh will function at a higher level. He added that the central government is also planning to set up a Central Research Institute of Yoga and Natural Medicine near Nadimpalem, near Katuri Medical College in Prathipadu mandal of Guntur district, with an investment of ₹100 crore. The state government has earmarked 12.96 acres for this project, which will only focus on providing medical services. A naturopathy college is under construction in Visakhapatnam with joint funding from the central and state governments. From the academic year 2026-2027, the center is expected to approve 100 seats for admission to the Naturopathy course in this college. New integrated AYUSH hospitals, including the upcoming Ayurvedic Medical College at Dharmavaram, will be set up across the state after central approval, the minister said.
