Center may delay introduction of E25 petrol amid backlash over higher ethanol blending: Report | Today’s news

Amid backlash following its mandate to increase the ethanol content of petrol from 10 to 20%, the government is now considering delaying its plans to introduce E25 petrol, a report in The Indian Express has revealed.

After increasing the concentration of ethanol in gasoline to 20% from 10% within three years, the government planned to issue E25 blended gasoline. However, the original plan was to release E20 gasoline only until 2030. Currently, the standard ethanol blend available in the market is E20.

Fears of the impending launch came to a head after two moves by the central government: one was to waive central excise duty on fuel containing 22-30% ethanol, and then the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) announced fuel standards for such blends.

This is a developing story. Check back later for more updates.
