Defense Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the need to maintain the pace with changing times, said on Thursday (September 18, 2025) that the government has launched key reforms for the transformation of army cantons into modern civilian ecosystems.
Until 2047, he addressed the two -day national conference organized by the General Directorate of General of Defense Estates on the strategic plan of Viksit Bharat or developed India.
“According to the law Jan Vishwas from 2023, several minor crimes in the 2006 canton law were decriminalized and now only attracts monetary penalties. A total of 25 sections were changed to support easy life and easy business in the canton,” Singh said.
Modern towns
The Minister of Defense emphasized the vision and said that the cantons must now evolve as modern cities, with extended digital services, greater participation of citizens and transparent administration. Platforms such as e-chhawani 2.0, offering AI-based complaints, multilingual services and intelligent health solutions, will play a decisive role with a special focus on the poor, disabled, seniors and children with special needs.
Awarding Indian Defense Farms for the successful fulfillment of double responsibility – managing more than 18 lakh acres of defensive land and ensuring the bliss of civilians resident in 61 cantons throughout India, Mr. Singh stressed that systems and processes need to be continuously upgrading.
He also pointed to reforms in the area of defense land management, while in 2021 the rules of land administration were replaced in the colonial era of 1937 replaced by new rules, allowing greater transparency, liability and faster decision making. By 2047, the vision is to develop cantons into intelligent, green and sustainable ecosystems, increasing the quality of life for millions of people in strengthening defensive land.
Among the dignitaries who attended the event were the Chief of the Air Staff of Air Chief AP Singh, Minister of Defense Rajesh Kumar Singh and Defense Director Shailendra Nath Gupt.
