
New Delhi: On Wednesday, the center approved the inclusion of the list of castes in the upcoming census. The decision was taken by the Cabinet Committee for Political Affairs that today has encountered, in the midst of growing requirements for the cushion of the people.
Information about trade unions and Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that this step was triggered by the need for transparency and consistency, noting that previous caste surveys were carried out ad hoc and often politically motivated.
“Such surveys have caused doubts in society. Considering all these facts and ensuring that our social structure is not disturbed by politics, the list of caste should be transparently included in the census. This will strengthen the social and economic structure of our society while the nation continues to proceed.”

Caste was not officially included in the census from independence. In 2010, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh assured Lok Sabha that the matter would be considered by the cabinet and a group of ministers was created to explore it. Most political parties supported the census, but the government of the connected progressive alliance instead decided instead to survey.

In another key decision, the cabinet approved an increase in the fair and the rewarding price (FRP) of sugar cane for the sugar season 2025–26 (October – September) £355 on Quinttal during sugar regeneration 10.25%.
