The Center has allocated ₹1,000 crore for laying 2,400 km of rural roads in West Bengal and approved the construction of one million houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said on Tuesday (July 14, 2026).

The announcement came after Mr Adhikari met Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who said the Rural Welfare Ministry had sanctioned ₹8,508 crore for West Bengal for the nine months to March 31, 2027 under the VB-G RAM G Rural Work Scheme.

“The total expenditure will be over ₹ 12,064 crore with the contribution of the state government,” added Mr. Chouhan.

Addressing reporters, Mr. Adhikari said, “The Center has provided ₹1,000 crore to West Bengal under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in the first phase for construction of 2,400 km of roads.”

He also said, “Union Minister Chouhan handed over the sanction for one lakh houses under Prime Minister Awaas Yojana to me and Panchayat Minister Dilip Ghosh.”

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Chouhan said that infrastructural works worth ₹82,492 crore were undertaken in West Bengal but could not be completed due to non-cooperation of the previous government in the state.

“All obstacles in the way of completion of these projects have been removed by the dispensation of Suvendu Adhikari,” he said, assuring the people that infrastructure in the state would now be developed at a fast pace.
