Centenary yoga guru BNS Iyengar felicitated in Mysuru

A felicitation program in honor of ‘Guruji’ BNS Iyengar, the century-old exponent of yoga, was organized at the Sanskrit College, Mysuru on September 23 on the occasion of his 100th birthday. The event was a celebration of a remarkable life dedicated to the practice and promotion of yoga.

His disciples, supporters and admirers from India and abroad gathered on this occasion. A ‘Yogi Varenya’ felicitation volume was released at the event to honor his contribution and achievements.

Delivering the felicitation, Vidwan HV Nagaraja Rao highlighted the remarkable way yoga transcends geographical, cultural and linguistic boundaries to unite people across the globe. He found “Guruji” to be a living testament to the transformative power and lasting benefits of yoga.

Dr. Shankaranarayana Jois, who presided over the program, spoke about the deeper dimensions of the Mysore yoga tradition. He highlighted the benefits of disciplined asana practice.

“Guruji” BNS Iyengar emphasized that yoga is not just an exercise, but a discipline that contributes to mental and physical well-being and should therefore be practiced by all.

More than 100 students of ‘Guruji’ from different parts of the world participated in the programme, making it an international celebration of yoga and its timeless traditions, according to the organizers.
