Giving a major boost to Maharashtra’s census, Muth village in Sindhudurg district has become the first in the state to complete a self-enumeration and has achieved this through a coordinated effort between officials and residents.
The village in Vengurla taluka, comprising 36 houses and 144 residents, achieved the milestone recently under the leadership of Collector Tripti Dhodmise, officials said on Saturday (May 9, 2026).
In a statement, Chief Census Officer Nirupama J. Dange appealed to other villages in the state to take inspiration from Muth village and complete their own enumeration process within the stipulated time.
“All families in Muth village of Sindhudurg district have completed the self-enumeration process. This achievement was achieved under the leadership of District Collector Tripti Dhodmise and through the active participation of the local administration and citizens,” she said.
All the 43 families in the village enthusiastically participated in the self-enumeration process and provided accurate information, the official said.
Meticulous planning by Tehsildar Omkar Otari played a significant role and the efforts of Naib tehsildar, circle officer and all talaths (village revenue officers) ensured that the campaign was completed on time and efficiently, the statement said.
The success of Muth village has proved to be inspirational for the district and exemplary for the state as well. It has once again proven that goals can be successfully achieved through effective coordination between the administration and citizens, Dange said.
The self-enumeration process as part of the first phase of Census 2027 began in Maharashtra on May 1 and will continue till May 15, followed by the census of houses and flats from May 16 to June 14.
