Census 2027: Self-enumeration process to begin in Tamil Nadu on July 17, 2026

The self-enumeration process, part of Phase 1 of Census 2027 in Tamil Nadu, is scheduled to begin on July 17 (Friday), M. Sundaresh Babu, Chief Census Officer, Directorate of Census Operations, Tamil Nadu, said in Chennai on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Babu said that the self-enumeration process was scheduled for July 17 to 31. A portal for this purpose will be opened on Friday, he said.

“Data shared with enumerators would be stored securely,” he said.

Those who have completed the self-enumeration can share the details of the unique self-enumeration ID with them when enumerators visit them, he said.

The field work i.e. house inventory and house census would be done between August 1 and 30, the official said.

The portal was available in 16 languages, he added.

The enumeration will be done digitally for the first time, he said, adding that the enumerators have been given mobile applications and the data collected by them will go directly to the data server.

Each enumerator would conduct enumeration in 200-250 households, he said.
