The Calicut (CCCI) Chamber of Commerce (CCCI) urged southern railways to immediately take steps in the field of food safety and hygiene standards on trains.
On Saturday (May 17) in a letter addressed by RN Singh, the CEO of Southern Railway, Sirajudheen Ellathodi, a member of the Advisory Committee of South Railway Railway (Mirc) and Secretary of CCCI, especially in Paklad and Thiruvananthapuram.
He demanded an immediate action to ensure the safety of passengers after being seized by an outdated meal from a diet unit in Kochi, supplying Vande Bharat Express and five other trains.
He also pointed out that the catering services did not meet the basic food safety standards on these trains, threatened the health and safety of passengers and the reputation of Indian railways.
Mr. Ellathodi also came up with five important measures to ensure the safety of passengers and emphasize their importance “to adhere to the health and confidence of millions of passengers relying on Indian railways for safe travel”. In addition, a set of immediate events was designed, including a detailed probe to all existing catering services, specifically in the Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram divisions.
Other proposals include blacklisting agencies that violate safety standards and exclude future railway contracts; deployment of other food safety officials across the main stations and on boarding trains; Regular and surprising inspections of trains with passenger feedback mechanisms; and storing stricter sanctions for breach of food safety.
