Officials of the Central Crime branch (CCB) arrested three Sri Lankan nationals who escaped from police custody and achieved Bengalur, and have remained illegally in a rented apartment in Devanahali in the last eight months.
Based on Tip-Off, a police team led by Raja Imam Khasim, DCP, Crime, attacked the apartment and arrested the accused. The probe revealed that all the accused, suspected of being part of an international drug syndicate, escaped the coercive body to achieve India.
The accused escaped from Jaffna and took the ship to reach India. They went to Ramesware and stayed there for several days before they moved to Bengalur with the help of local contact.
The investigation is to identify their activities in the city during their stay and contacts that have provided them with logistics support.
Earlier case
In August 2023, CCB officials arrested three Sri Lankan nationals who were suspected of being involved in several cases in their native country who escaped with the help of a local person to Bengalur. The trio was arrested from a housing apartment in Yelahance, where they stayed a month before they were pinned down.
They came to Rameshwaam on the sea route AS using a local agent arrived in Bengalur and remained in the apartment using counterfeit documents.
