The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Greater Chennai Police has urged the school management to file a complaint against PT Arasakumara, 59, who was arrested on Saturday (June 27, 2026) for allegedly cheating private schools in Tamil Nadu of around ₹100 crore by promising to get government approval.

Acting on a complaint filed by Elangovan, secretary of the Tamil Nadu Federation of Private School Associations, the CCB registered a case and started an investigation into the alleged fraud.

According to the complainant, Arasakumar, who allegedly posed as the president of an unregistered body called “Tamil Nadu Private Schools Association”, along with several associates collected large sums of money from managements of private schools in Tamil Nadu.

False promises

The accused allegedly promised to secure permanent recognition, approval for school modernization and other government clearances.

Arasukumar failed to get the promised approvals and did not return the money collected from the schools.

The CCB said that during the investigation, the police examined documents, bank transaction records and statements obtained from the school management.

Investigation revealed that the money was collected from schools in several districts in Tamil Nadu.

Investigators continue to gather details about the affected schools and identify the districts involved.

The main accused Arasakumar alias Pudukottai Thiagarajan Arasakumar was arrested from his residence in Chennai on Saturday.

The CCB said its officials suspect that nearly ₹100 crore may have been collected from private schools across the state for the promise of securing permanent recognition, school upgradation, DTCP approval, building permits and other government clearances.

The investigation is continuing to identify other people involved in the alleged fraud and to gather more evidence. The police appealed to managements of private schools who believe they have been duped in a similar manner to approach the CCB and file complaints.
