CBSE student Sarthak Sidhant, who exposed OSM system, seeks extension of revaluation deadline: ‘He was busy exposing you’ | Today’s news

Sarthak Sidhant, who has raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on-screen marking (OSM) system, on Sunday sought an extension to the revaluation deadline that ends today, saying he was “busy with debunking” the board this week.

“Can you please extend the deadline as I have been very busy with unveiling this week,” Sidhant said on X.

The CBSE on Friday announced a one-day extension in the deadline for Class 12 students to apply for verification of marks and revaluation of answer scripts. Students can submit applications now until June 7.

The decision was taken after several students reported difficulties in accessing their answer sheets and completing the verification and revaluation process through CBSE’s post-result service portal, which was launched on June 2.

“In the interest of students, CBSE has decided to extend the last date for submission of applications for verification and revaluation for the Class 12 board exams, thereby providing additional time and support to students to complete the process,” the board wrote on X.

“We request the students to take note of the revised time table and submit their applications accordingly,” he added.

The CBSE said the deadline, originally set for midnight on June 6, has been extended by 24 hours and will now remain open till midnight on June 7.

Earlier this week, the board launched an online portal that allows students to seek verification of discrepancies found in scanned copies of their answer sheets and seek re-evaluation if they were not satisfied with their board exam results.

As part of the verification process, students can flag issues such as missing pages, omitted supplement sheets, missing maps or charts, blurry scans, incorrect answer books, or instances where the assessment could have been done using a different set of questions.

The board recently came under scrutiny after several Class 12 students alleged that the scanned answer sheets made available by the CBSE did not seem to match their handwriting, raising fears of possible errors in the OSM system.

Amid this controversy, the Cabinet Secretariat has set up a one-member committee to look into the procurement process related to the OSM system used by CBSE.

Rahul Gandhi meets Sarthak Siddhant

Congress President and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi praised 18-year-old Sarthak Sidhant and his associate Nisarga for exposing alleged links between CBSE and service provider COEMPT. Describing their actions as a triumph of young voices, Gandhi said the development was a setback for the government.

The Congress president claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would rather see the youth employed in “reel-making” than challenge those in power. However, he said these students chose to challenge the system and in doing so uncovered the answers they were looking for.

“Mr. Modi wants our youth to make rolls, fry pakoras, not ask questions, not open their eyes. But these children asked questions. And they found answers too. 18-year-old child of the country has overtaken the CBI – this victory of the youth is really a defeat of the government. This is the real strength of the youth of India – a curious, aware, informed country.”
