The CBSE School Council sought to return the tax increase on school buses and the “insistence” of the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) to install three CCTVs in each bus.
While it was looking for a tax rate as a rate of government school buses, the Council said that buses without added schools were collected five times higher than for government and supported schools. The tax hike would affect about 1700 CBSE and ICSE schools in Kerala, especially because each school had an average of seven buses, said Indira Rajan, National Secretary General of the Council.
While the Council welcomed the CCTV installation in each bus, she said that the insistence of three would mean a greater financial obligation. In this respect, the MVD memorandum was submitted in this respect, she added.
Meanwhile, MVD officials said that cameras facing the front, rear, foot plate and each bus interior were necessary, especially as a result of several fatal accidents reported in recent years across different districts, which concerned the road directly before or after school buses. Children do not always have to be clearly visible to the driver, they added.
