Tamil Nadu recorded a pass rate of 98.48% among students who appeared for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 board examinations. This marks a slight drop from last year’s pass rate of 98.74% in the state. The CBSE Class 12 results were declared on Tuesday (May 13, 2025) with the national pass percentage recorded at 88.39%.
In the CBSE Class 10 exams, the results of which were also declared on Tuesday, the state recorded a pass rate of 99.86%, a slight increase from last year’s 99.84%.
Girls outnumber boys
As many as 42,904 boys and 37,314 girls from Tamil Nadu wrote the Class 12 exams in which girls outscored boys (98.03%) with a pass percentage of 98.99%. The Chennai region stood third in the country after Trivandrum and Vijayawada regions with a pass rate of 97.39%, a slight drop from last year’s 98.47%. Apart from Tamil Nadu, the Chennai region includes Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Puducherry and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The CBSE Class 12 exams started on February 15 and ended on April 4. As many as 1,041 schools in the state participated in the exams and students appeared for the exams at 344 centers across Tamil Nadu.
Class 10 Results
In terms of CBSE Class 10 exam results, the Chennai region slipped to the fourth position in the country with a pass rate of 98.71%, down from 99.3% in the previous year. The percentage of national ID was 93.6%. Class 10 exams started on 15th February and ended on 13th March.
In Tamil Nadu, 56,008 boys and 47,251 girls wrote the Class 10 exams. Girls outperformed boys in this year’s test with a pass percentage of 99.9, while boys scored 99.8%. Most of the schools in Chennai city have registered a pass rate of 100.
