The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday (July 6, 2026) conducted searches at 26 locations in 11 states and Union Territories in connection with four separate cases related to alleged misappropriation of funds by the Border Roads Organization (BRO).

The tours were conducted in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.

According to the agency, in addition to private individuals, cases were registered against 10 officers from the ranks of a lieutenant colonel, a major and an engineer.

“These cases relate to irregularities in the deployment of casual laborers and payments released in the name of bogus casual laborers in the Vijayak and Yojak project in the Union Territory of Ladakh,” the agency said. The four first information reports were registered on the basis of criminal complaints filed by the Union Ministry of Defense following an internal inquiry conducted by the Technical Board of Officers of the BRO.

These offenses include alleged misappropriation of government funds, cheating, forgery, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy under the erstwhile Indian Penal Code and wrongdoing and bribery under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Several incriminating documents and digital evidence were seized during the searches, the agency said.
