
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said in a statement on Friday that it has arrested National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) managing director and regional officer Maisnam Riten Kumar Singh in an alleged bribery case.
Officials said Singh was arrested in Guwahati in connection with allegedly accepting bribe ₹10 lakhs. In addition, the agency also confiscated ₹2.62 million in cash and documents relating to nine landed properties and 20 flats owned by him and his family members across the country.
The statement added that the CBI has also seized documents related to the purchase of luxury vehicles in Singh’s name.

According to reports, Maisnam Riten Kumar Singh allegedly demanded a bribe from a private firm for giving them extension and completion certificates for its work on the four-lane National Highway-37 between Demow and End of Moran Bypass in the state.
Singh was posted to NHIDCL’s regional office in Assam’s Guwahati.
Has anyone else been arrested?
The agency also arrested the company’s Kolkata-based representative, Mohan Lal Jain, Binod Kumar Jain in connection with the case.
Both the accused will be produced in the court of Special Judge, CBI cases in Guwahati today, the agency said.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is in Guwahati today to pay tributes to late singer Zubeen Garg. At the stage where the singer was cremated, Gandhi offered a gamosa, a traditional Assamese scarf, and a garland.
Gandhi was accompanied by Assam Pradesh Congress president Gaurav Gogoi, AICC general secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia, among other party leaders.
The 52-year-old singer died in Singapore while swimming in the sea on September 19. He was cremated with state honors on September 23 at Sonapur near Guwahati.
